Soil preparation and brand development

From field to innovation: The first steps

September 1, 2018

In September 2018, we began extensive soil preparation, which included meticulous plowing and deep soil loosening. This fundamental work is crucial not only to enrich the soil, but also to prepare it perfectly to nourish the vines and to give our ambitious project a robust start.

Fully aware that our first harvest was expected in 2021 — with the prospect that the quality of the wines would significantly increase in the following two to three harvests — we decided to take a proactive approach. We decided to establish a temporary brand to learn as much as possible through hands-on experience. That's how we founded our local company, Wijngoed SL (Dutch for vineyard).

This endeavor wasn't just a step into wine growing; it was also an opportunity to rethink and innovate the traditional wine bottle design. With two years ahead of us, the urgency was palpable, but we were motivated by the challenge. Time flies quickly, but we're excited to share more about our journey of innovation and discovery in the area of wine presentation. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving story.
