In March 2018, through a fruitful collaboration with our local partner WeinWert, we discovered a gem in Algaida — an ideal plot of land for our ambitious vision of cultivating a vineyard. Our mission? To mix internationally recognized grape varieties with the region's unique, local grapes, creating a flavor panorama that appeals to both local traditions and global palates.
The land chosen for our vineyard has a rich heritage that was previously used for growing herbs and grains. The last harvest of these traditional crops is planned for summer, because it is only in autumn that we will start preparing the soil. We have already made a conscious decision to preserve areas of this green heritage in various remote sections of the country. This strategic decision is not only a recognition of the property's historic past, but also a future-oriented step to enrich its biodiversity. In doing so, we aim to give our wines the complex, nuanced aromas that only such a diverse ecosystem can offer.
As we move forward, our team is busy developing a careful strategy for growing grapes. This includes deciding which varieties to plant and determining the optimal quantity, all taking into account the preferences and traditions of the local community and the expectations of island visitors. These are indeed exciting times for us, and we're excited to soon unveil our detailed plans for the grape varieties that will define our vineyard. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey of winemaking, combining tradition with innovation in the heart of Algaida.
