The year 2023 was a particularly interesting year for viticulture in Algaida, Mallorca. The climatic conditions have strongly influenced and influenced the harvest, which is clearly reflected in the quality and characteristics of Vinya Tribaneli wines. Here is a detailed overview of the weather in 2023 and its effects on our wines.
temperatures: The year 2023 was characterized by exceptionally warm summer months. Temperatures peaked in July and August, which led to an accelerated ripening of the grapes. The average high temperatures in summer were around 30°C, while the nights remained mild. These conditions promoted the development of sugar and flavorings in the grapes, which was particularly beneficial for our white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.
Rainfall: Rainfall was unevenly distributed over the year. A dry spring was followed by several heavy rains in September, which arrived just before the Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested. These late rains were critical as they increased the risk of fungal diseases and forced winegrowers to be particularly alert. Nevertheless, we were able to ensure high-quality grapes through targeted care and timely harvesting.
Wind: The “Embat” sea breeze played a crucial role in regulating temperature and humidity in the vineyards. These breezes had cooling effects during the hottest days and helped refresh the vines and minimize the risk of heat stress.
Sauvignon Blanc (Harvest: August 15, 2023): Sauvignon Blanc benefited from the hot summer days, which led to an intensive development of citrus aromas. The wine's fresh acidity was preserved through the cool nights, resulting in a lively and refreshing profile.
Viognier (Reading: August 22, 2023): Our Viognier is rich and aromatic, with notes of apricots and peaches. The warmth of summer increased the fruitiness, while the breezes added the necessary freshness.
Molí Blanc (Harvest: August 15 - 22, 2023): This versatile white wine, a blend of Giro Ros, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, benefited from the balance between hot days and cool nights, resulting in a complex and balanced structure.
Roselló (Reading: August 26, 2023): The rosé wine shows an elegant blend of Syrah, Merlot, Callet and Gorgollassa. The hot days helped to develop the intense fruit aromas, while the acidity was retained by the cool nights, resulting in a harmonious and fresh wine.
Rubí Marès (Reading: August 26, 2023): This red wine impresses with its depth and complexity. The combination of warmth and moisture supported the development of intense fruit and spicy notes, while late rains required careful selection of the best grapes.
Chardonnay (Harvest: August 16, 2023): Our Chardonnay, which was partly aged in barriques, shows the typical aromas of apple, pear and a fine note of butter. The hot days encouraged the development of these rich aromas, while barrique maturation gave the wine additional depth and complexity.
Cabernet Sauvignon (Harvest: September 25, 2023): Cabernet Sauvignon was challenged by late rains, but careful care of the vines made it possible to harvest high-quality grapes. The result is a powerful wine with deep berry aromas and an elegant tannin structure.
The year 2023 was characterized by extreme weather conditions, which offered both challenges and opportunities. Thanks to careful work in the vineyard and adaptation to climatic conditions, we have been able to produce a range of wines that reflect the Algaida terroir and the unique conditions of this year. Each of our wines bears the signature of this special year and offers an authentic taste experience of Majorcan viticulture.
